You can make your 50cc scooter faster. Just because you’re riding one of the smallest engines on the road doesn’t mean you can’t get your money’s worth.
Your 50cc scooter engine is crazy efficient. It’s not unreasonable to expect between 75 to 100 miles per gallon and get a good looking ride, too.
But you can trade off some fuel efficiency to get a few more MPHs. You paid for that scooter to get you somewhere. Here, we’re going to talk about how you can make your 50cc scooter faster.
It’s All About the Brew
A few internal combustion engine facts: you mix air and fuel you to make an explosion. The more air and fuel you can force into each cylinder to more powerful the explosion.
You can actually tweak your scooter yourself to make it a little faster.
The first thing you can do is remove, disable or upgrade your ignition module. Simply clipping the ignition module to the rest of the bike will allow your bike remove an RPM limiter for your scooter.
You can also enrich the fuel air-mix as well. Pop open your carburetor to move a washer that will allow your carburetor allow a smidge more fuel into the engine. More gas means more boom.
This will shave off a little fuel efficiency. But it will also make your scooter faster.
Another outgrowth of this will increase your scooter’s acceleration as well. You get more gas into the engine faster. That makes you go faster.
If you do this, you will need to get the increased exhaust out of the engine or you will choke out your scooter. Look at getting an aftermarket exhaust that has high flow, maybe consider getting an exhaust without a catalyst.
You will also need to get more air into the engine to keep the combustion going. Simple things like making sure the air filter is clean all the time will make your 50cc scooter faster.
One more tweak you can make is removing the restricted stock variator with an unrestricted variator. The restricted variator physically keeps your scooter from making the most of your scooter’s gear ratios.
Below is a link to cool video I found that talks about some of the same stuff on how to make your scooter faster.
A Word of Caution in Making Your 50cc Scooter Faster
Many of the restrictions on your scooter are there because the lawman says so. So, by making the changes to your scooter, you risk running afoul of the law.
The point of these restrictions is to keep scooter from going over a certain speed, for most states its about 35 MPH.
Other restrictions on scooters have to do with environmental regulations. Tampering with these systems may violate emissions standards on your scooter.
However, these rules vary state to state.
